¡Hola! My name is Abigail Estrada, I am from Elgin Illinois, and I am currently a sophomore in the World Language and International Studies Academy at Streamwood High School.
I am very excited and looking forward to being an upcoming teen advisor for Girl Up. When I found out about this opportunity, I realized that many of the schools in my hometown did not have a club where it let us be advocates for something we are passionate about. Having this position now, I can not wait to get started working with Girl Up to create a club at my school! With this opportunity, I hope to educate my community on the issue of gender inequality as well as work alongside others to become advocates for girls and women around the world.
Apart from being a Teen Advisor, I am a part of an academy at my high school that specializes in making students into global citizens. Currently, I am learning the Japanese language and about the Japanese culture. In the future, I hope to visit Japan in my Junior year, to be able to practice my Japanese! At school, I am part of various clubs such as: Science Olympiad, DECA, and best buddies (a club that works with students with a disability). Also, at school, I am a part of the Cross Country and Badminton team. Although I like to keep busy at school, in my free time I like to: paint, draw or sketch, listen to music, and experimenting with new makeup looks. Through being a part of the Girl Up team, I hope that I am able to grow and learn to gain the skills to become a great leader.
