Hi! My name is Allie Zehner, and I am a junior at Rowland Hall St-Mark’s School in Salt Lake City, Utah.
I first heard about Girl Up through my school and immediately knew it was something I wanted to be a part of. I am looking forward to building up Girl Up’s presence in Utah.
At 14 years old, I had the opportunity to travel to Senegal, Africa to spend time with Molly Melching, the founder of an organization called Tostan. There, I learned about many issues that affect girls’ opportunities today, including lack of access to education, child marriage, and more. This trip ignited my passion and commitment to advocate for girls everywhere. In my role as a Teen Advisor, I hope to highlight the many important issues facing girls globally.
Now here’s a little bit more about me! I have dual citizenship in the United States and Canada, and have spent a decade of summers working on our family’s orchard in British Columbia. I have always loved sports and made my school’s all-region volleyball team as a sophomore. In addition, I served as a captain for my club team. During the school year, I also participate in the debate and dance programs. I love to learn and am working to become my school’s valedictorian. Although I am just entering my junior year, I want to pursue a degree in engineering or social entrepreneurship when I reach college. In my free time, I enjoy nonstop cuddling with my two dogs, bad reality television, and eating lots of chocolate.
I am extremely honored and excited to be a Teen Advisor and am thrilled about this opportunity.
I love collecting and sharing inspirational quotes, so I would like to end with one: “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” –Mahatma Gandhi
