¡Hola a todos! My name is Deborah, I am 16 years old and I am from Blantyre, Malawi. I am super excited and grateful to be a Teen Advisor for the 2019-2020 term.
When I first got involved with Girl Up, I was already on the move for girl education and empowerment. I would usually concentrate more on sending many girls to school and university in my community. I believe that if a girl is educated and becomes successful, she is fearless and able to go against gender inequality. Therefore, every girl out there needs to go to school if girl power all over the world is to be obtained. I am really inspired in all the people who help to fight gender inequality. I have seen many girls get educated and later cannot become who really want to because they are frightened to get up and fight for their rights. This is because the society looks down upon females. This happens frequently in my country, Malawi. So as a leader, I strive to fight against gender inequality. I am looking forward to gaining more creative and leadership skills to help many girls around the world.
I am passionate about becoming an engineer at the same time passionate about becoming a lawyer. I would take this opportunity and to fight against gender inequality. I love sports such as netball and hockey. I am a big fan of yoga, art, music, travel and I would not forget about FOOD!
