I am Elina Govil, I’m 16 years old and a rising junior at Indian Hill High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. I am absolutely ecstatic and honored for the opportunity to serve as a Girl Up Teen Advisor. I got involved with Girl Up last summer when I attended the 2016 Girl Up Leadership Summit. Through the speeches, interactions, workshops, and experiences lobbying at Capitol Hill, I immediately fell in love with Girl Up’s mission and the fact that it’s a by girls, for girls campaign.
I cannot wait to start my own club this school year to get more people involved with the cause! As my school has never had a Girl Up Club, I hope to bring light to these issues girls face across the world by organizing movie screenings, fundraisers, a bicycling 5K for SchoolCycle, and an in district meeting with our Representative so I can encourage others to take action.
In addition to Girl Up, I have a deep passion for musical theater, Mock Trial, tennis, dance, travel, and anything and everything Disney!
I am so grateful and excited to start working with the Teen Advisors to advocate for girls’ rights to education and equality, a topic I feel most passionate about. I believe that everyone deserves the right to their own future and should be given the opportunity to a proper education. By educating girls we, not only make a difference in their lives, but pave the way for a brighter future!
Girl Up has given me the confidence and empowerment to advocate for issues I feel passionate about, and I hope to encourage other girls to do the same.
