Faatimah Solomon

Hi everyone! My name is Faatimah Solomon and I’m a rising senior at the American International School of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. I’m am currently 16 years old and I am from Sacramento, California (in addition to originally being from Sudan), but I’ve been living in Saudi Arabia for the past seven years of my life.

I’m a passionate advocate for gender equality and I live everyday trying to promote this essential and extremely important message. When my nose isn’t stuck in a book, I try to defy stereotypes and pursue my dreams of making the world a better and safer place for girls. I’m an active member of my school community. I’m a co-founder and co-president of the AIS-R Girl Up, a National Honor Society leader and member, and a member of Student Council (currently serving as junior president). I interned at the UNICEF office in Riyadh in November of 2015 and since then, I’ve been inspired to become involved in UN efforts (and maybe even work for the United Nations in the future). More than anything, I enjoy traveling and seeing new places and experiencing new culture. I’m also a fluent English, Arabic, and French speaker.

As someone who comes from a diverse background and has been exposed to a multitude of different cultures, I know that the only way we can make our world better is if we all work together collectively. I am very excited and looking forward to being a 2016-2017 Girl Up Teen Advisor, because diverse cohorts of people that come together to be part of something bigger provide a platform for social and political change and inspire others to take action and initiative, something seen in the Girl Up community. I sincerely hope to make a difference.
