Imani Brooks

My name is Imani Brooks and I am a native of South Boston, Virginia and a senior at Chatham Hall College Preparatory School.  I’m honored and thrilled to serve as a 2015-2016 Girl Up Teen Advisor.

In every aspect of my life — from my favorite hobbies to my heroine — passion drives me. My passion fuels me to compete in tennis and to travel the world to places like Germany to South Africa and everywhere in between. I also debate intensely in Model United Nations and have completed a neuroscience independent study during my junior year. In my spare time I work hard on my horseback riding lessons.

Shonda Rhimes serves as my inspiration.  She inspires me to work hard. She is a wonderful example of how intuitiveness, risk-taking, and determination leads to positive outcomes.

Currently, I serve in many leadership positions such as the American Legion Auxiliary Jr. President for the Department of Virginia, Chatham Hall Honor Council Member and more! In my various leadership positions, I strive to balance fun and business.

I firmly believe it is important to live passionately while leaving your mark on your community.  My passion for girls’ education and ensuring equal human rights to everyone will make me an effective Teen Advisor this year. I first became involved in Girl Up by attending the annual Girl Up Leadership Summit in 2013.  I started a Girl Up club at my high school and served as president for two years.

I am excited to serve as a Teen Advisor this year, to use my voice to push for educational opportunities for girls whose voices are being silenced, and to promote the core goals of Girl Up.
