Janet Ho

Hi everyone! My name is Janet Ho, and I’m currently a senior at Notre Dame Academy in Los Angeles, California.

Ever since learning about the horrors of human trafficking, I’ve become passionate about the protection of women’s rights around the world. Besides starting the West Los Angeles Girl Up Club and serving on cabinet for the SoCal Girl Up Coalition, I’ve served as a Trafficking Response Unit for the anti-human trafficking organization, Destiny Rescue. In this role, I’ve helped spread awareness of international sex trafficking by speaking at churches, schools and organizations across Los Angeles.

At my high school, I’m Editor-in-Chief of my school’s newspaper and Vice President of the National Honor Society, where I direct all campus-wide peer tutoring activity. In addition, I’m co-captain of the Academic Decathlon team and a Southern California regional gold medalist.

I also have an interest in politics, which is why I’ve founded my school’s Junior State of America chapter, serve on the SoCal JSA cabinet, and intern for various congressional campaigns. I’ve established a Youth Advisory Board with my local congresswoman to better advocate for The Girls Count Act and give the youth in my community a voice. Finally, I was a Girls State delegate and headed its California Commission on the Status of Women, a government agency dedicated to promoting women’s rights.

When I’m not busy, I enjoy reading historical fiction and making pottery. In the future, I hope to work with the United Nations and become an international women’s rights activist or a journalist. I’m honored to have this opportunity to serve as a Teen Advisor, and I can’t wait to see what amazing things are in store for this year!
