Hi, everyone! My name is Kate McCollum, and I am a senior at Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Upon hearing the hardships that young girls face across the globe, I knew I wanted to be a part of the solution. This passion for girls’ and women’s rights took off when I founded a Girl Up club at my school, for which I now serve as president.
In addition, I love helping others, and I am an avid participant in my school’s Key Club, National Honor Society, and ambassador program. Through these organizations, I enjoy volunteering with local elementary schools and community organizations.
In my free time, I like to read, run and work on my art. I am able to combine my love for running and helping girls through the program Girls on the Run, for which I volunteer twice a week as a junior coach. Girls on the Run is a transformational development program for girls that incorporates running—so I get to help girls learn and grow while staying healthy. Through Girls on the Run, I work with a private school that has teamed up with a local low-income elementary school to provide a healthy outlet for some of the community’s struggling girls.
Art is another big part of my life and has always been a creative outlet for me. I believe creativity is a large part of successful learning and education, and I strive to combine the two in my life.
I am so honored to serve as a Teen Advisor, and I am really looking forward to helping girls through this incredible opportunity.
