My name is Khushi Gandhi. I am a rising senior in Middlesex County Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Technologies in Edison, NJ.
I joined Girl Up during my freshmen year, because I firmly believe in the campaign’s mission, that every girl, no matter where she is born, should grow up safe, healthy, and empowered. I am the president of the Girl Up Club in my school and have started a club in India, too. The Girl Up campaign has truly inspired me to voice my opinion, challenge the status quo, and be the change agent who can influence the decision and empower every girl to live her dreams with dignity and respect.
I am an active member of my community through my involvement in UNICEF, Red Cross, and Interact in which I serve as the Vice President. I am also a Young Women’s District Leader for SGI-USA, a community based organization dedicated to promoting world peace and harmony through the teachings of Buddhism. I have learned Indian classical singing and Bharatanatyam and also enjoy playing basketball and swimming.
In the future, I want to pursue a degree in engineering and also work towards gender equality and equal pay for women at the workplace.
I would like to share a quote from Malala Yousafzai which I find greatly motivating- “I raise up my voice—not so I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard…we cannot succeed when half of us are held back.”
I am extremely honored and excited to be a Teen Advisor and I am thrilled to take on this role. If my efforts can impact change in living conditions of my sisters around the world, it will be an extremely fulfilling and satisfying endeavor.
