Hi everyone! My name is Noorhan Amani and I am a junior in high school from sunny San Diego, California. I am the president of the Girl Up club at my school, a founding member of the United Nations Association of San Diego’s Youth Board, member of the National Honor Society and a writer for an online blog and magazine.
I started a Girl Up club at my school in the beginning of my sophomore year after witnessing firsthand, on a trip to Bangladesh, the struggles young girls faced. Since then, our club has held several successful fundraisers, a documentary screening, and has attended several community events helping to spread the word about Girl Up’s mission.
In the past year after starting a Girl Up club, I have gained a greater understanding and interest about global issues affecting women and children, and this recently encouraged me to start a Youth Board addressing issues such as poverty, gender equality, and health.
Besides my passion for global issues, I am also interested in science and more specifically, scientific research. I have conducted scientific research and have participated in science fairs for several years, competing on the regional, state and international levels.
I am so excited to be a Girl Up Teen advisor and am grateful for the opportunity to work with the Girl Up team and other teenagers with the same interest for improving the lives of girls and women worldwide!
