¡Hola! My name is Rebecca Fairweather and I am a 16-year-old rising Junior at Forest Hills High School in Queens, New York.
I am absolutely humbled and honored to help empower and change the lives of many as 2018-2019 Teen Advisor! I currently serve as the Vice-President of the New York Coalition and President of the Forest Hills High School Girl Up club. Through these positions I have made sure to advocate for Girl Up and keep true to the quote “Uniting Girls to Change the World”. I have always felt passionate about the importance of education and gender equality. Both are necessary to make a real difference.
Besides being apart of the fight for gender equality, I am also passionate about the fight against gun violence. I have worked with March for Our Lives and Seventeen Magazine to make sure that the issue that America faces with gun violence is serious, and should not be silenced. I also love doing musicals and being involved in the arts. I love the feeling of being on stage and expressing yourself through a character, or being backstage leading everything knowing your hard work has paid off. Even though it gets tiring, I love giving up my free time and weekends to six-hour rehearsals and endless Broadway karaoke.
Girl Up has really widened my horizons, and I have become an advocate for things like social activism. Being teen advisor is truly a privilege, and I am extremely ecstatic to continue to share Girl Up’s message and show the the future truly is female.
