Hello everyone! My name is Ruhy Patel and I am 17 years old. I live in Doylestown, Pennsylvania and I am currently a senior and the Student Body President at Central Bucks High School West.
I love to run in the mornings but my day sport is leadership. I have a passion for global relations and for philanthropy. Service is a big part of my life and I have always been fascinated by the world and how one person can make a difference in the lives of others. In my town, I served as the 2013-2014 Junior Councilperson and I volunteer at the local museum and therapeutic art studio. Alongside being an active volunteer, I am also an artist and I love sketching, poetry and reading.
I first learned about Girl Up from my county chapter of the United Nations Association where I served as a Youth Board member my sophomore year and as a full time Board member my junior year. Two years ago, the board members were planning a Girl Rising screening and they wanted my help with publicity. When I learned about the campaign, I thought that it was perfect and I eventually got involved with our school Girl Up club. I value my education and I know how fortunate I am to live in the United States where I get the opportunity to receive an education.
Every couple of years I get the chance to visit India, where my family lives. When I was younger I always used to wonder why so many little girls didn’t go to school like my cousin and I did. I got to see firsthand the hardships that girls face without education and I knew that I wanted to help them.
I am so excited to be able to channel my passion for education and empowering girls into Girl Up and to take it to the next level. I am honored to be a Teen Advisor and I can’t wait to see a world where every girl is safe, healthy and has access to the education she deserves. High Five!
