My name is Sarah Gale. I’m a 16-year-old sophomore and live in Boca Raton, Florida. I’m so excited to be named one of this year’s Teen Advisor Co-chairs!
I am a trilingual, open-minded, and passionate student who has a deep interest in other cultures and languages, and often find myself engaging in conversation with any native Spanish and French speakers because of my strong desire to learn more from people. I love visiting my mom’s home country, Colombia, and getting involved to help improve the lives of teenage girls living in utter misery in Cartagena, Colombia.
I have a keen passion for music because it’s one of the few things that is universal, and it’s a great way to connect with other people. In my spare time, you can find me in the dance studio, singing, playing the guitar, or playing the piano.
After realizing how much I love helping people, I knew I had to take the next step beyond my community. So, when I came across Girl Up on the Internet and absolutely fell in love with the organization, I knew that their club program would be perfect. So, I started my club in 8th grade and never turned back.
As a Teen Advisor, I’ve hosted a Girl Up Mother-Daughter Zumba event, given presentations at different schools, represented Girl Up at events, hosted a screening of Girl Rising, started the South Florida Coalition of Girl Up clubs, and helped lead break-out sessions at the 2013 Girl Up Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C.
Being a Teen Advisor has not only taught me about girls’ issues, but worldwide problems, and taught me that no one is too young to make a difference. I hope to continue to spread my passion and enthusiasm for helping girls across the country and the world as a Teen Advisor Co-chair.
