My name is Shushu Crevoshay and I am 17 year old rising senior at La Jolla High School in San Diego, California! I currently serve as Girl Up La Jolla’s club President, Girl Up San Diego’s Coalition Lead, and am excited to take on this new role as Teen Advisor for the class of 2018-2019!
My advocacy work for gender equality all started a week before my 8th birthday when I was asked what I wanted. I was told that race cars were for boys and dolls were for girls. After delivering a well-formed argument, I received my race car, and that is when I knew that changing people’s minds was truly possible.
This drive for gender equality eventually led me to find Girl Up, whose message of “by girls, for girls” really resonated with me. Lucky for me a Girl Up club was started at my school just as I began my freshman year, and since then my passion for helping girls has only grown. Through bringing speakers to my school to educate on sexual assault and participating in Girl Up fundraising challenges by selling Candy Grams, I have learned that no contribution is too small to make a difference.
When I am not advocating for social change, I enjoy going to the beach with friends, reading a good book, and crocheting. I also enjoy participating in various extra-curricular activities. I am a Varsity diver, my school’s newly elected Student Body President, and a camp counselor at a sleep away camp in Mexico City.
I am beyond thankful for the opportunity to be a part of this years class of Teen Advisors and am ready to advocate in order to make education a right, not a privilege.
