Sophia Danielpour

Hi! My name is Sophia Danielpour and I’m a 15-year-old sophomore at Marlborough School in Los Angeles, California.

In school, I’m a member of the Girls Go Global club, which is partnered with Girl Up and several other like-minded organizations seeking to improve conditions for girls around the world. This year, I will be serving as the Girl Up liaison for Girls Go Global and will oversee all Girl Up-related activities for the club. I also participate in Lincoln Douglas debate, most notably winning two tournaments last year and placing as a national semi-finalist for first year debaters. Additionally, this year, I established a new volunteer organization at my school called “Help Out. Hang Out!” that I am hoping to roll out citywide. “Help Out. Hang Out!” plans several events a month where teens can participate in unique, local volunteer opportunities while at the same time spending time with their friends. With this model, my goal is to motivate teenagers to take positive action in order to make a real difference within their communities in a way that’s fun for all.

When I first heard about the Girl Up Teen Advisors from a former Teen Advisor, I knew that I had to apply. I am so passionate about Girl Up’s mission and inspired by the thousands of girls worldwide who have connected with each other through Girl Up to work to secure the rights of girls across the globe wherever they have been denied. I feel so fortunate and excited to be able to work even more closely with the Girl Up community in order to improve the lives of girls all around the world. I firmly believe that changing the situation for girls is the best way to change the situation of the world.

Outside of school, I enjoy learning about politics and love travelling. Having visited a number of foreign countries, I’ve had the opportunity to immerse myself in many different cultures. One day, I hope to become an ambassador overseas, combining my passion for politics with my interest in foreign cultures, in order to make a positive difference in the world. In my free time, I enjoy working on arts and crafts projects, engaging in very competitive games of Monopoly, playing tennis, cooking, and baking delicious treats for my friends and family members to enjoy.
