Hey there! My name is Tanushah Ramadass. I am 16 years old and currently a senior at APL Global School in Chennai, India. I was actually born and raised in Singapore but I moved to India 3 years ago. Currently, I serve as the founding President of APL Girl Up.
I stumbled upon Girl Up a year ago when I was scrolling through Instagram and found out that one of my favourite singers, Demi Lovato, was working with Fabletics to raise funds for girls in impoverished countries. Being a firm believer in girls’ rights to education, I was extremely delighted to find out that I could create a Girl Up Club in my area as there were no Girl Up Clubs in Chennai or even in the entirety of South India. Since then, APL Girl Up has recruited over 80 members and has conducted a wide range of activities to empower women and girls here, in Chennai. Girl Up has brought together a huge number of like-minded individuals who are willing to fulfill the United Nation’s SDG No.5: promoting gender equality. Embarking on this journey has taught me so much, from believing in myself and persisting forward.
Apart from carrying out my regular Girl Up duties and being a strong feminist, one of my passions includes writing. For the past 2 years, I’ve been the Head of the International Press Corps in my school’s Annual MUN and have written in many local Newspapers. My love for writing has led me to become a co-founder of my school’s Newsletter as well as the Editor in Chief of my school’s E-magazine. I am also a writer in an organization called United4social change. In addition to writing, I love to sing and explore different genres of music. During my time in Singapore, I was in choir for more than 7 years and currently, I am learning Namasankeerthanam which is a genre of Indian classical music.
I feel so privileged and honoured to serve as Teen advisor for the 2019-2020 school year. I cannot be more excited to work with all of you and see what this year has in store for us all!
