Hi everyone! My name is Vanessa Louis-Jean. I was born in New York but was raised in Columbia, South Carolina for the majority of my teen years. I am currently a rising senior at Blythewood High School and excited to spend my last year of high school being involved with Girl Up.
I am so happy to serve as your Girl-Up teen advisor for the 2019-2020 year!
As a budding activist, I have been involved with many grassroots programs and organizations. I have worked closely with the Women’s March, Save the Children Network, ACLU, and The Representation Project to help garner change in my communities. Seeing the youth being the forefront of many activist movements, has given me to courage to start my own endeavor of giving youth voices a platform. Often times, you can see me being an ally in many local protests and marches.
When I am not being an activist, I’m most likely working late nights creating my school’s yearbook, preparing for my competition event in FBLA or going to the see ANY Marvel movies with my closest friends.
Undeniably, Girl Up is the perfect chance for me to be actively involved in providing spaces and areas for women to be empowered and heard. Being surrounded by strong and powerful women in not only my family but also in high places such as Michelle Obama has taught me the importance of #GirlPower. Especially, with the Girl Up community, I can not wait to be empowered by so many girls of all different stories and backgrounds!
