Hey! I’m Vanessa Valdez, and I am from Huntsville, Texas. I am 16 years old and currently attend Huntsville High School, where I participate in many clubs and activities. I am currently a part of my school’s Key Club, Speech and Debate Club, Spanish Honor Society and am Vice President of my Student Body.
I enjoy reading, playing tennis, spending time with friends and family and immersing myself in different cultures. During my spare time, you can often find me outside on hikes and walks with my dog, engrossed in a book or volunteering around the community.
I am very passionate about service. I love volunteering and believe in giving back to the community and lending a hand to those in need. I often help local elementary schools with a garden program that helps to educate young children about the conservation of the environment, while allowing them to become citizens capable of being connected to the greater world around them.
The empowerment of girls and women has always been very important to me. After spending a summer visiting an all-girls school in Honduras, I realized just how much the education of one girl could impact the whole community. My passion for service and helping others led me to join Girl Up and become president of my school’s Girl Up club. I’m so grateful that through this organization I am able to do my part in helping girls in need while also fulfilling my passion for service. I love Girl Up and I am so honored to have been chosen as a 2015-2016 Teen Advisor. I look forward to working with everyone and continuing to educate, fundraise and advocate on behalf of the adolescent girls around the world.
